We get asked many important questions in relation to tyres and as a result we have tired to compile a list of the most common. If your question is not listed below please feel free to contact us.

When do I need a wheel balance?

If you experience a wheel wobble or vibration when driving at high speed (80kmh plus) then this can mean that a wheel is out of balance.

To fix the problem we apply tiny weights to counterbalance the heaviest part of the tyre and wheel assembly.

When do I need a wheel alignment?

Getting new tires is not by itself a reason to get an alignment. However, if your old tires are worn unevenly it is recommended that you obtain a wheel alignment. You do not have to get an alignment immediately, but driving with poor alignment will cause premature tire wear.

Do tyres have a use by date?

Tyres older than 8-10 years should be replaced regardless of wear. Older tires are substantially more likely to fail than newer ones. This is because tires are made mostly of rubber, and rubber degrades with age.

You can check the age of your tyre on the side wall (see image) this will be in weeks a d years, for example the tyre below was manufactured on the 9th week of 2007.

How can I tell if my tyres are still legal?

The 20 cent coint test. A quick and easy way to see if your tyre tread exceed the minimum legal tread depth is to take the 20c test. Simply place a 20c coin into the main tread grooves of your tyre. If the outer band of the 20c coin is obscured when it is inserted, then your tread is above the legal limit.

What pressure should i put in my tyres?

If your tyres are under-inflated by twenty per cent tyre life can be reduced by thirty per cent. The rule here is to add 4PSI from your Minimum Compliance Plate Pressure. We generally recommend between 36 - 38 PSI.

How often should i rotate my tyres?

We suggest that you check your tyres every 5,000km to ensure that you correct any uneven wear and to help maximize the life of your tryes.
